Brisbane's BIGSOUND Festival has been growing increasingly renowned for both being the largest celebration of new music in the southern hemisphere, and for being a world class platform to launch the careers of musicians.
Now, thanks to the Levi's Music Prize it will be home to the largest music prize in Australian history.
The prize pool of $100,000 will be awarded to artists who have built up significant momentum during BIGSOUND, but who need the dollars to keep their career progressing.
Administered by QMusic in conjunction with Sounds Australia, the Levi's Music Prize provides the chance for artists to build on their international careers post-BIGSOUND as part of a three year plan to build additional opportunities for artists following their involvement in the festival.
On the final day of BIGSOUND, an initial prize of $25,000 will be awarded to an artist who has played in a showcase at the festival. The remaining prize money will then be opened up to BIGSOUND alumni who have featured in the last five years to apply for the remaining $25,000 prizes over three quarters.
Just another reason for artists to play BIGSOUND this year, and applications to play are now open.
