One of Brisbane's iconic live music venues, The Zoo is celebrating its silver anniversary (that's 25 years dear kids) with a massive shin-dig in December featuring some of Queensland's most cherished performers.
Adele Pickvance (The Go-Betweens) and Ian Haug (Powderfinger/The Church) will join musical forces on the night; other musical additions include Regurgitator's Ben Ely, ISIS (featuring Lucinda Shaw, James Lees, Toni Lawson, Rozi Pizzey, Ruth Gardner, Kevin Haigh and Terry Dixon), Marcello Milani (Toothfaeries) & Tenzin Choegyal, Tim Steward & Kellie Lloyd (Screamfeeder), Sabrina Lawrie and Sissybones (featuring Paddy Dempsey, Alison St Ledger, Innes Campbell, Robert Pound).
A second line-up announcement is due in November.
The birthday celebrations will also support two charities: Support Act (who help Australian artists and music workers who are facing hardship due to illness, mental health problems, injury or some other crisis) and Feed Music (a not for profit website that enables touring artists and bands to pinpoint cafes and restaurants situated in their passing town, in which they can eat and drink at for free).
Original owners Joc Curran and C Smith opened the doors in December 1992 and the venue quickly became one of the focal points for the explosion of music, art and creativity in Brisbane in the '90s.
Since then, bands too numerous to mention from all over the world have performed there and literally hundreds of people have worked at The Zoo; many young artists, managers and musicians, all doing time on the bar, at the door, as a glassy or duty manager.
Creating this breeding ground of creativity and strength of community has been the great achievement of The Zoo and is continuing into a new generation, helmed by new owner Pixie Weyand.
