Heralding a new era for the band, Aussie folk, indie pop legends Boy & Bear return with the single 'State Of Flight' – their very first independent release since uploading 'Mexican Mavis' to Unearthed more than a decade ago.
The news also arrives packaged with a 14-date national tour in June-July that criss-crosses the continent visiting the mainland capital cities as well as regional stops including Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Townsville, Torquay, Wollongong and Newcastle.A beautifully crafted, upbeat ballad 'State Of Flight' is built on a modern folk-pop melody that hearts the golden sounds of the 1970s, while Dave Hosking's stunning vocals reach falsetto-levels at times and are weaved between a gorgeous choral chant that echoes back and forth throughout the song's melodious journey.
"The song is really a love letter to the arts, to the joys of being creative," Dave says.
"I love making music, and even in the face of considerable challenges these last few years, it's only further solidified my obsession and genuine love of the creative process."
The group have also released a 'magical' music video for 'State Of Flight' directed by Taylor Ferguson that offers a fertile imagination for curious minds, the story depicting ideals of freedom and self-expression.
"'State of Flight' captures a true sense of euphoria and bliss," Taylor says. "I love the way the track builds to an unusual, but compelling high sensation.
"I knew I had too somehow create a dreamlike world where anything felt possible. So I came up with a story about the uninhibited expression of selfhood and the explosive power of freedom. Making them fly felt like the right thing to do."
