Boom Crash Opera Australia 2025 Tour

Boom Crash Opera
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and some beyond.

Australian pop-rock band Boom Crash Opera are celebrating their 40th anniversary with a massive national tour playing all their hits along with a taste of new music.

The Hands Up In The Air - The Singles Tour will see the band traverse across the country on a 20-date run that will visit Gold Coast, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne, Sunshine Coast, Hunter Valley, Blue Mountains, Torquay, Warrnambool, Launceston, Hobart, Newcastle, Sydney and Castlemaine between October and December.

Originally forming in late 1984 in Melbourne, the band were touted early on as ones to watch with their 1986 debut single 'Great Wall' cementing their reputation as an emerging force with their quirky brand of pop rock.

Their 1987 self-titled debut album produced a number of singles including 'Hands Up In The Air' as well as amassing three ARIA Awards nominations (including Best New Talent).

Often compared to INXS, Icehouse and Tears For Fears, 1989 saw the band release their sophomore album, 'These Here Are Crazy Times', that was led by the single 'Onionskin' along with breakthrough track 'The Best Thing' (which was re-recorded with James Iovine of U2 fame, who'd later partner with Dr. Dre for Beats by Dre in the mid 2000s).

'These Here Are Crazy Times' also featured arguably the band's most well-known song 'Dancing Up A Storm' (which was heard regularly during Australian sports broadcasts), the album overall launching the band into the US market.

After a trio of album releases in the '90s, the band continued to tour regularly and play festivals into the 2000s, releasing an acoustic album of their hits titled 'Dancing In The Storm' in 2009.

Earlier this year, the band dropped their first new music in 28 years with the crunchy electro-glam-rock number 'Latest Hustle' that guitarist, keyboardist and backing vocalist Pete Farnan says is like 'Onionskin' "but with a contemporary twist".

So keep it in! Cut it out! Kick it out, when Boom Crash Opera – Dale Ryder, Pete Farnan, Peter 'Maz' Maslen and John Favaro – return to the stage this spring for a best-of set featuring all their classics. From 'Great Wall', 'Dancing In The Storm', 'The Best Thing', and 'City Flat', to 'Get Out Of The House', 'Onionskin', 'Bettadaze' and 'Hands Up In The Air'.

Tickets on sale from 10am (local time) on 4 July.
