Bombs Away: Let's Go To The Beach

Bombs Away
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Self confessed party boys Bombs Away aren’t afraid to put on a crazy show.

The ARIA nominated and multi-platinum selling duo have spent most of their lives surrounding themselves with music and have no plans to slow down just yet. “I think because we’ve got a live show it lets us jump around, and it’s kind of like we’re at our own party. It just makes it heaps more fun,” says Sketch, who’s one-half of the Gold Coast DJ act.

Recently back in the country after a series of international dates, the lads are looking forward to playing on home turf at the Launch It concert this Friday. “It's one of our first shows back after our US tour, so just playing to a home crowd is gonna be crazy,” Sketch says.

Bombs Away are set to release a new club track with Tenzin, ‘Mother Truckers’, this week as well, with plans to release more collaborations on the horizon. Future projects in the works include tracks with Sydney’s The Potbelleez, the UK’s Luciana and renowned US rapper Lil Wayne. “We're building a new studio here at the Gold Coast, like a big custom one for everyone to just come work at ... so hopefully there's going to be even more people coming together to work with us.”

Over the last five years Sketch and Bombs Away partner Tommy Shades have been cautious not to stray to far from their original style. “I think we try and stick to the same overall vibe … it’s not so much about the genre, it’s about the party itself … We did a lot of trap stuff in the past and now we’re doing a lot of reggaeton influenced stuff.”

Bombs Away’s music clips have been creative to say the least, and the duo take full credit for their wild nature. “’Better Off Next Time’ we wrote ourselves… all the directions and everything … it just gives us another creative outlet,” Sketch says.

Now certified stars of the clubbing scene, both locally and internationally, Sketch can still recall the first time he heard a Bombs Away song on the radio. “I felt incredulous. I didn’t really think that it was happening … Radio Metro and all the dance stations got our stuff really early which was crazy.”
