Bodyjar & Gyroscope 2023 Australia Tour

Bodyjar (top) and Gyroscope will tour Australia together September 2023.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

It's a double bill to make the punk-rock OGs salivate with Melbourne stalwarts Bodyjar and Perth rock gurus Gyroscope joining forces for a bout of nostalgia.

The co-headline tour will visit Sydney, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Perth, Bunbury, Hobart, Adelaide, and Melbourne in September.

Two legendary acts of Australian punk and rock, Bodyjar will be honouring the 25th anniversary of their third album 'No Touch Red', which produced the sing-along classics 'Remote Controller' and 'You Say', playing the record in full.

Gyroscope will do the same for their ARIA #1 and certified gold record 'Breed Obsession' (which was also nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2008 ARIA Awards), which celebrates its 15th anniversary.

Bodyjar singer-guitarist Cam Baines fondly remembers the recording process for 'No Touch Red'.

"[It] was recorded at the famous Morin Heights studio in Montreal, Canada; everyone from The Police to Corey Hart ('Sunglasses At Night') recorded there in the '80s and '90s. We even got to use Sting's coffee cup and tantric tambourine.

"It was the dead of winter in 1998 and we'd just finished a huge but gruelling tour of Canada playing with Blink-182, SNFU and MXPX. The last show was with Descendents in Montreal where we convinced Bill Stevenson by knifepoint to mix the album once it was done.

"The album almost never happened when our bass player Grant slammed drummer Ross's hand in the sliding Tarago van door after loading into the studio. After an X-ray he was cleared to play but it was a miracle that he did!"

Gyroscope look back just as ardently on 'Breed Obsession'. "In 2007 we spent about six weeks living and breathing this record in Liverpool with the legend Dave Eringa (Idlewild, Manic Street Preachers) who helped us bring this record to life.

"We shot a video for the first single 'Snakeskin' in Wiltshire, where a 200-metre crop circle was purpose built. No alien sightings, but it made for a cool video at least!"

Both bands are equally pumped to get on the road and once again share stages across the country.

"We can remember the first time we came across these young kids from Perth who were very good at destroying stages and writing very good songs," Bodyjar guitarist Tom Read says.

"Nothing has changed as they haven't aged a day and either has their music. Us on the other hand, you'll have to see that to believe it."

Adds Gyroscope: "Fifteen years gone way too fast, but this record brings back some amazing memories for us and we are super keen to do a deep dive into 'Breed Obsession' from front to back.

"As a bonus, we grew up thrashing the record 'No Touch Red' by Bodyjar and feel honoured to share the 25th anniversary of their killer record."
