Bluesfest Commits To An All-Aussie Line-up In 2021

Tash Sultana
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

As uncertainly continues as to when Australia's international borders will open to overseas travellers, Bluesfest have pivoted their 2021 event to a 100 per cent all-Aussie line-up.

Bluesfest had been set to host international headliners Bon Iver, Patti Smith, Michael Franti, Morcheeba, Kool & The Gang and others (many of which had been scheduled to play the 2020 event before COVID forced its cancellation).

"With Australia's international border restrictions in place, we must officially announce that the international artists previously included on our 2021 line-up will not appear at Bluesfest next Easter," Bluesfest says via their Facebook page.

"We can confirm that Bluesfest 2021 will consist of an amazing all-Aussie line-up. With our last three all-Aussie artist announcements, your response and support has already been incredible.

"We are fast approaching 70 per cent sold out for what we believe will be our approved capacity. Thank you!

"We look forward to celebrating the return of live music and the finest artists this country has to offer with you at Bluesfest 2021."

The smorgasbord of Australian music talent who will be headed to Byron Bay's Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm (1-5 April, 2021) includes Tash Sultana (her new album 'Terra Firma' is due in February), winners of the J Awards 2020 Album Of The Year Ocean Alley, three-time ARIA Award winners The Teskey Brothers and singer-songwriter Ziggy Alberts (who also has new album, 'Searching For Freedom', due next March).

Then there's living legends Jimmy Barnes, John Williamson and Kev Carmody alongside perennial festival favourites like John Butler, Xavier Rudd, The Cat Empire.

But don't sleep on other line-up highlights: Briggs, Tex Perkins, Hiatus Kaiyote, Kate Miller-Heidke, The Bamboos, Melbourne Ska Orchestra, Kim Churchill, Mia Dyson, Dami Im, and Emily Wurramara.

Five-day, three-day and single-day tickets are still available.

Bluesfest 2021 takes place at Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm (Byron Bay) 1-5 April.
