Bluesfest 2013 – Day 4
Those who woke up early (well, 3pm) were blessed to witness the recording of one of the most entertaining RockWiz performances ever. Guests included, but weren't limited to, Kylie Auldist (Bamboos), Tex Perkins (Beasts of Bourbon) and Steve Kilby (The Church). There was a vibe around the festival about Allen Stone, who also made a short appearance on stage before his sets tonight and tomorrow.
Sunday is always Australia Day on the Mojo Stage. ANZAC Day, perhaps, with the addition of Fat Freddy's Drop. King Cannons kicked proceedings off early again followed by ex-Melodics frontman Grey Ghost, Saskwatch (who produced one of the best albums of 2012), popular winner of The Voice, Karise Eden, Nicky Bomba's new incarnation Bustamento, festival favourite Xavier Rudd, Fat Freddy's Drop, and The Cat Empire.
FFD played another one of those sets that they play sometimes where they tease out their jam and hold off on the peak. Tantric dubs, maybe? The Mojo tent went nuts once again for The Cat Empire.
Those that wanted to dance, however, made their way to the Crossroads for another dose of high energy world music. There were clearly a lot of Central and South Americans in the crowd who responded to everything that Manu Chao called out (in Spanish and Portuguese).
The rain had set in by the time Roger Hodgson took the stage. He said that he would save 'It's Raining' for later in his set, and he lifted the tent when he began to play 'Take The Long Way Home'. It was a bit of a 'Best Of' set, which displayed how accomplished he is as a songwriter.
After a display of great grooves and musicianship from SOJA and plenty of exercise watching Manu Chao again, it was time to make the way back to the tent, bus or car with sore feet to either kick on or to rest for tomorrow's final night of musical excellence.
