The 18th annual Blue Mountains Music Festival has announced its 2013 line-up, which will take place over three days in the leafy surrounds of Katoomba.
Internationally acclaimed indigenous singer-songwriter Gurrumul Yunupingu will headline the festival. Originally from North Queensland’s tiny Elcho Island, he has since won an ARIA Award, traveled overseas and performed at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee concert earlier this year. Another headliner is American folk singer Arlo Guthrie, son of prolific singer-songwriter Woody Guthrie.
The lineup also includes Irish folk-rock singer Luka Bloom and Egyptian multi-instrumentalist Joseph Tawadros and the Joseph Tawadros Trio. The 2013 festival has been described as the year of the cello and Zoë Keating and Natalie Haas will be showcasing the instrument with their distinct styles.
Zoe will perform solo, when she layers and loops her music live on stage to create what has been described as a beautiful, haunting sound. Natalie will perform her Celtic tunes alongside violinist Alasdair Fraser, who has been acclaimed by the San Francisco Examiner as “the Michael Jordan of the Scottish fiddle”.
The Blue Mountains Music Festival takes place from March 15-17, 2013.
