Bjorn Again: The Ultimate ABBA Tribute Band Are Still Captivating Audiences

Bjorn Again headline two concerts at Twilight At Taronga's 2024 series.
I'm Keali and I live in Brisbane. I love anything cats, country or metal, and I love a good moshpit. When I'm not behind the camera or writing, I am probably at band practice or reading with my cat and a cup of tea.

From the catchy beats to the iconic fashion, Bjorn Again continue to captivate audiences, decades after ABBA's original rise to fame.

For over three decades, Bjorn Again have captivated global audiences with their remarkable ability to recreate ABBA's legendary music.

They have performed at prestigious venues worldwide and made numerous TV appearances, cementing their status as the ultimate ABBA tribute band.

"One time, all the way back in 2003, we played at a gigantic aqua sport, fun park in Hanoi, Vietnam," Bjorn Again's 'Benny' shares.

"So that was quite strange. They set up the stage right next to one of the pools. So, there was several thousand people there, and children and adults having great fun in the water as well. What stands out for us is the universal appeal of ABBA's music. It's extraordinary to go to these remote, exotic locations."

By recreating ABBA's iconic music of the '70s and '80s, Bjorn Again has played a significant role in bringing together people from different generations and backgrounds.

Their live performances have transcended time and continue to captivate audiences worldwide, making them a beloved tribute band for fans of all ages.

"It really sort of is front and centre on our radar, how profound the impact of what we do can be for people. And it's easy for us to lose sight of that reality sometimes. So it's wonderful to be reminded of that.

"We've seen many, many times now, particularly in the last five to ten years, multiple generations of the same family coming to the show.

"So that just speaks to the universal appeal of the music itself, and how wonderfully crafted those songs are for their time with the sounds and the technology and memorable melodies and the way the songs are actually put together, the mechanics of it, all contribute to this amazing combination."

An integral aspect of their performance as Bjorn Again is creating a memorable show where music lovers can switch off from their cares and concerns for an hour or two. It's no surprise that 'Dancing Queen' is one of Bjorn Again's most popular songs, as it also happens to be a favourite of Benny's.

The energy and excitement of the song make it a thrilling experience for both the band and the audience. "I just love looking out into the audience and see, and I observe at every show, all the middle-aged men going crazy.

"That is right. It's just not what you expect to see, but for some reason that song has that impact on the middle-aged men that are there. Now of course, everybody else is usually into it as well. That one just puts a very big smile on my face at the end of every show.

"The other part that helps the music to stand apart from other bands of that time and era is the uniqueness of the fact that ABBA had two female vocalists as the front people for the band, which you know, that does not happen very often."

Bjorn Again has been a staple performer at the Twilight at Taronga concert series for a long time. Their captivating performances and ability to recreate ABBA's music have made them a fan favourite at the event, and their enduring popularity has kept them coming back year after year, which continues in 2024.

"You know, for us, undoubtedly, performing at Taronga Zoo; it's the best outdoor entertainment venue in the world. And I know that sounds quite possibly like an exaggeration, but for us, it just feels like. . . When it happens, it is just so wonderful with the combination of the location, the audience's expectation to have a great night, the fact that the view for them behind the stage is of Sydney Harbour with the Bridge and the Opera House and the city skyline where we perform.

"Then you combine that with the excitement of the crowd, it is just absolutely magical. So, every single year, we go back there and it's like, Oh my goodness!"

Bjorn Again's universal appeal is best be summed up by Benny himself. "No matter where we are, people know and love and adore the music."
