BIGSOUND is back bigger and better than ever, celebrating its 21st birthday in rambunctious style with its first in-person festival and conference since 2019.
Brisbane just hasn't been the same without BIGSOUND.It seems an age since the music industry gathered in Fortitude Valley, packing out venues for showcases and networking. Three long years we've waited to do it all again and at last BIGSOUND is back in town.
"This year sees the return of our first live conference and festival since 2019," QMusic CEO Kris Stewart says.
"We're feeling from the industry far and wide that they're itching to be back in rooms together and we couldn't be more excited to get artists back on stages and industry back in their live element."
In 2022, BIGSOUND will feature more than 180 live acts over 3 nights alongside a stacked conference schedule that puts you in the room with some of the music industry's most important voices and identities.
Expect profound insight and advice from keynote addresses delivered by esteemed industry practitioners such as viral pop sensation Rebecca Black, activist and #MeToo founder Tarana Burke, Australian-born, Walt Disney Imagineering Global Music Executive Tricia Holloway, Nashville-based Milly Olykan from International Relations and Development of the Country Music Association, Live Nation Women President & Chief Strategy Officer Ali Harnell, and ARIA and PPCA CEO Annabelle Herd.
Other keynote speakers include Mushroom Group CEO Matt Gudinski, multi-disciplinary artist/a dvocate for change and accountability Jaguar Jonze and UK’s chart-topping electronic producer and artist Example (who now calls Brisbane home).
Additionally, Yanyuwa/ Wardaman songwoman Shellie Morris, Uncle Joe Geia, Carissa Nyalu and JK-47 will unpack the process of navigating the industry through a First Nations' lens and share their viewpoints of blazing their own trail within the music industry.
From the United States, BIGSOUND welcomes the divine ministry of Che Pope, CEO/ founder of WRKSHP and the Grammy Award-winning producer behind defining hip hop albums like 'The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill' and ground-breaking 'Bound 2' by Kanye West.
As the burgeoning virtual world creates new opportunities for artists, key figures including Montaigne, Tim Shiel, Woodes and more will explore how to crossover from contemporary music to the gaming and Web3 space.
Leading Music3 figures like VP, New Business at Warner Music Group US Jillian Rothman and Unified Music Group CEO Jaddan Comerford will also breakdown just what it means to enter The Metaverse and beyond.
Back in meatspace, BIGSOUND in 2022 is broadening its horizons by boot-scootin' into the world of country music with the addition of BIGSOUND Country.
Developed in partnership with industry bodies including APRA AMCOS and The Country Music Association of Australia (CMAA), and supported by the Brisbane Economic Development Agency, the BIGSOUND Country portion includes party, showcases, dedicated panels and a special show featuring some of Australia's finest country music artists.
