National Music Editor, based in Brisbane, Australia.
'Passionate about true crime docos, the Swannies, golf and sleep, I’ve been writing about music for 20-plus years. What I’ve learnt? There’s two types of music – good and bad.’

The annual gathering of music tastemakers and industry shapers, the southern hemisphere's biggest music industry conference and live music showcase, BIGSOUND returns for its 22nd chapter in discovering the future of music.

The 2023 artist line-up boasts 141 artists, 300-plus artist showcases at 18 official venues across 3 massive nights – 5-8 September.

Keep scanning the line-up and you'll continually find plenty of talented acts from a wide range of genres. . . indie pop and garage rock, to hip hop and rap plus the heavy sounds of metal, hardcore, punk and heavy rock.

Not forgetting all the colours of EDM and indietronica as well as singer-songwriters, R&B, shoegaze, country, Americana, jazz, soul, world music and so much more.

BIGSOUND is the place music punters can scope the hippest, trendiest acts currently forging their own path to the stardom. Here's your chance to jump aboard at ground level before the bandwagon is even wheeled out.

BOOX KID

Fremantle singer-songwriter and producer Boox Kid is a proud Noongar man delivering unique electro-pop. Fresh off opening for George Ezra and Hoodoo Gurus, Boox Kid has also performed sets this year at Perth Bluesfest, Dark Sky Festival and WA Day Festival.

CLOE TERARE

Sweet, sour, pretty and brash. . . all at the same time. It's the best way to describe Toowoomba-based artist CLOE TERARE. This '22 Unearthed Feature Artist is exploring new sounds and shamelessly crossing genres. With lots in store just around the corner, CLOE's 2023 is looking bright.

DICE

DICE are an alt-rock four piece hailing from Perth. With a sound that has been likened to the first day of summer, the band have spent the past 12 months bringing their good vibes to sold-out shows across WA and are quickly becoming one of the country's most exciting up and coming groups.

GUT HEALTH

Emphasising a relentless driving rhythm section backed by angular guitars and accompanying synthesizers, brought home by the effervescent vocal stylings of Athina Uh Oh, Gut Health create a powerful live performance categorised by their unfiltered theatrics, tongue-in-cheek delivery, joyous groove and definitive precision in their tight execution.

JOHNNY HUNTER

Johnny Hunter embodies darkness and glamour. Their gothic post-punk, influenced by Bowie and Depeche Mode, has amassed a cult following. They've sold out venues nationwide and Adam Greenspan (IDLES, Nick Cave) mixed their debut album 'Want'.

SACHEM

An award-winning artist, Sachém holds ties to Noonuccal (Stradbroke Island) and African-American roots, with his family in Florida. Sachém has opened for the Queensland Music Awards and the AFL Indigenous Round as well as playing QPAC with his theatre show, 'The Bigger Picture'.

THE DANDYS

Alt-rock newcomers The Dandys have hit the ground running. Two years in and they've already earned high praise for their electrifying live performances, enthralling songwriting and bold musicality. Having supported the likes of Hope D, WAAX, The Grogans, and gracing the stages of renowned festivals like Splendour, the band's reputation as a tour de force is becoming undeniable.

TORI FORSYTH

If there's a rural town in the middle of Australia you've never heard of, Tori Forsyth has probably played a show there. Tori's career was built on being rode broke and song and story heavy. She has amassed over 15 million global streams across all platforms with her 2015 breakout single 'New Wall' amassing over 6 million streams alone. Tori is now getting ready to release a brand-new record, one that must not be missed.

YORKE

Yorke is an indie pop artist from Byron Bay and Melbourne, who's clocked over 17 million streams – with her single 'Window Shopping' reaching 8.5 million streams alone. On top of her own headline shows, she has supported the likes of Peach PRC, San Cisco, Amy Shark, Ruel, Lewis Capaldi and Ball Park Music.

BIGSOUND runs 5-8 September at various venues in Fortitude Valley (Brisbane).
