UK troubadour Ben Ottewell — best known as the most recognisable voice in Mercury Prize-winning five-piece Gomez — will return to Australia in June.
Love Police Touring have announced an extensive schedule for Ottewell (Wee Waa's about the only town that's missed out). He last played solo dates here in 2011, the same year he released his first solo LP, Shapes & Shadows.
There are three singers in Gomez, but Ottewell's unmistakable voice has graced more than a few fan favourite tracks, including 'Get Miles', 'Revolutionary Kind', 'How We Operate' and 'See The World'. In an early profile of the band, Rolling Stone declared "Gomez's not-so-secret weapon is Ben Ottewell. His deep, raspy voice is spine chilling... more like an otherworldly bluesman than a baby-faced Brit."
Ottewell will be supported on all dates (except WA) by Melbourne multi-instrumentalist Matt Walker, who'll be showing off his new album, In Echos Of Dawn. Walker first supported Gomez back in 2001, so this is something of a homecoming for him.
