Ben Hazlewood has teamed up with Australia's most iconic wearer of hats for his new single.
Hazlewood, best known as a semi-finalist on Season One of 'The Voice', has turned to Molly Meldrum to produce his new single, 'Loveless'.
Meldrum is usually thought of as a music critic and TV presenter, best loved for the years he spent hosting 'Countdown' and appearing on 'Hey Hey It's Saturday', but he's also got runs on the board as a producer (he's particularly noted for his epic production on Russell Morris' classic track, 'The Real Thing').
"It's a real honour to be working with a legend like Molly," Ben says. "His enthusiasm and expertise really helped us take the song to its full potential."
Unlike 'The Real Thing', Molly didn't want to go overboard with the production of 'Loveless'. "'Loveless' was painless," Molly says. "Working with [co-producer] Ricki [Rae] was a joy, and Ben is such a fine singer and this is such a great song, we didn't want to over-produce it.
"The song speaks for itself."
As a Meldrum production, it does feature a couple of ostentatious touches — including a six-piece string section, and backing vocals by Melbourne singer Susie Ahern and the National Boys Choir of Australia. Because, sure, why not?
"I really think Ben can be a global star," Molly says.
