Ben Folds 2020 Australia Tour

Ben Folds brings The Symphonic Tour to Australia March 2020.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Piano-rock legend, Ben Folds will return to Australia next year.

But this round of performances will see Folds straying from the usual rock-band format audiences are familiar with when he is accompanied by a number of Australian symphony orchestras.

Renowned for his infectious beats and introspective lyrics, the singer-songwriter is no stranger to breaking the mould. Folds performed a round of shows with classical orchestras back in 2014, and grew up playing in them as well.

As such, Folds expects this tour to boast a more intimate platform for his songs, commenting on how this particular mode of performance feels like “home” to him. “In these concerts, the orchestra is my band,” he says.

“When I perform with an orchestra, I tell audiences that I’m expressing myself through a different form than what they have come to expect in a rock show, a form that happens to be done by people who are among the best musicians on the planet and who do it all the time.”

The Australian tour will visit Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne, with Ben joined by each state's respective symphony orchestra.
