Brisbane Multicultural Arts Centre (BEMAC) is calling out for proposals from the creative community, for shows to present as part of the first half of 2024.
BEMAC has been staging productions fuel the diverse practice of artists for nearly four decades.
These shows will be staged as part of the BEMAC Live (up to five shows) and BEMAC Unplugged (three shows) series. The invitation is open to individuals, bands, collectives, community groups, and non-profit organisations.
First up is BEMAC Live, a series of professionally-produced shows to be held at the Queensland Multicultural Centre in Kangaroo Point. BEMAC is looking for proposals of new, original work which inspires and moves in any art form including music, arts, dance, theatre, film and more.
The aim is to elevate diverse artists and their artistry, and BEMAC is excited by work examining discourses and perceptions on multiculturalism, migration, and identity. . . And works leveraging the arts as a platform to ask difficult questions, challenge ideas, and enable change.
Next is BEMAC Unplugged – a series of low-key shows showcasing diverse talent and inviting cross-cultural collaboration. Unplugged takes place in an intimate setting, aiming to recreate the vibe of BEMAC’s shows at Yungaba in a venue to be confirmed.
Three programming principles underpin the programme.
Courageous in creativity – BEMAC aims to support artists at all career and development stages.
Determined in diversity – BEMAC aims to ensure that diverse stories, voices and expressions and duly represented and welcomed.
Enablers of change – BEMAC aims to drive positive social change toward the elimination of racism, discrimination and exclusion.
Submissions for BEMAC Live and BEMAC Unplugged are now open until 13 December.
