Beloved '60s Aussie Rock Band Zoot Reform To Play First Australian Shows In 50 Years

Classic Aussie rock band Zoot are reforming to perform their first Oz shows in almost 50 years.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Australia's very own 'reverse' supergroup of yesteryear, psych rockers Zoot are reforming to perform their first Oz shows in almost 50 years.

One of Australia's most-loved bands of the late '60s, the tour is dedicated to the band's lead singer, Darryl Cotton, who died of liver cancer in 2012.

The band will feature original member Beeb Birtles (a founding member of Little River Band) as well as Rick Springfield (who became a solo star in the US) and Rick Brewer (who later performed with The Ferrets) – they'll be joined by their close friend and contemporary Russell 'The Real Thing' Morris.

"This whole tour is about honouring Darryl Cotton and his band Zoot," Rick Springfield says. "Darryl also had a band with Russell Morris, Jim Keays and Ronnie Burns for 16 years, so it's great to have Russell celebrating Darryl by joining Zoot."

The reunion celebrates the 50th anniversary of Zoot's debut album, 'Just Zoot', and follows the release of the Zoot anthology, 'Archaeology'. Russell says the tour will be a "labour of love".

"I am not trying to be Darryl," Russell adds. "But as I worked with Darryl for so long, he is a part of me. And I know how much he cared about Zoot, so I will give it my very best."

General tickets go on sale at 9am EST 21 February. Click here for more details.
