Two years after releasing their debut EP, all-female five-piece Being Jane Lane are in the midst of writing and recording their first album.

Teigan, the vocalist for Being Jane Lane, says much of this year has been devoted to producing the new album and building the band's national profile.

“This year we've been working hard on our album,” Teigan says. “We've been putting gigs to the side a little bit and just focussing on writing and putting the album together.

“We did our EP two years ago [2016] but it feels like it was just yesterday because we've been doing everything, but it's been a good time.

"It's hard to say because the moments come so sporadically and every other day of the week we're out working. We always seem to be going forward, which is nice and we're always working too, so that's always a positive towards getting us to where we want to go.”

Teigan goes on to say that the band's sound and style has evolved dramatically since releasing their EP and that the album will include a healthy selection of brand new music the ladies have been busily working on together.

“We've been playing some of the songs that we're putting on the album at our live shows, but people who haven’t been to see us live haven't really heard the new stuff, and there's a lot of it,” she says.

“Basically we wanted to put it all together and make an album so we can have more than four or five songs on a piece, that's why we're doing an album and it's coming along well.

"We're working out the different pieces and parts of the songs that we haven't fully polished and it's probably 65-70 per cent done.”

Even though they've been concentrating more on the album than live shows, Being Jane Lane still managed to rock the crowd at Dead Of Winter in 2018, their second time playing the festival.

As the year dwindles towards its inexorable end, Being Jane Lane will find themselves on the VB Hard Yards Tour after being voted in by a torrent of their supporters. “It feels warm and fuzzy and very nice,” Teigan says.

“We were very overwhelmed by the fact that we were chosen as one of the three [winners] for Queensland; being one of nine bands is an absolute honour.

"We pushed really hard to get the votes through to actually win the Queensland section so it feels really good, especially when you put yourself out there for people to vote for your band and everybody is just ready to do it for you and they wish you luck. It's a really good feeling when all your community gets behind you as well.”

Sharing the VB Hard Yards line-up with Paper Thin, Claws & Organs, Alex Lahey, Tired Lion, WAAX and RAAVE Tapes, Being Jane Lane look ready to share some of their new music on the road.

“There will be songs from the new album being played at the VB Hard Yards Tour and songs too that even people who have come to see the new songs haven't heard yet.

"We've got a few special ones up our sleeves for the tour, which we are so stoked about, overwhelmed – we were a bunch of screaming girls when we found out we won it.”
