One of Australia's most important cultural events has announced its programme for 2017.
Barunga Festival (now in its 33rd year) in the Northern Territory has been Indigenous Australia's premier destination for music, sport and culture, and will this year welcome a killer line-up of musical talent to its stage.
Festival goers can expect to witness the sounds of Missy Higgins, Bunna Laurie and Skinnyfish Sound System, with a special performance by Justine Clarke who will be joining students from Barunga School. Coloured Stone will celebrate their 40-year anniversary at the festival, and over 15 other bands from all over the NT will hit Barunga's main stage each night including B2M, The Lonely Boys and more.
With sport being an important part of remote community life, over 45 teams from across the NT, East Kimberley, Queensland and Central Australia will come together to play in Australian Rules, basketball and softball competitions, giving some of the country's best up and coming Indigenous sports stars the spotlight.
Culture will play a big part of the event, too. There will be traditional dance, spear throwing, didgeridoo playing, weaving, damper making, storytelling and more.
The event is 100 per cent drug, smoke and alcohol free to ensure a family friendly environment for all.
