After making their Australian debut in January, LA trio Automatic are returning for a second 2023 tour down under in July.
The post punks, who are already part of the 2023 Splendour line-up, will play a series of headline shows in Melbourne, Sydney, and Fremantle.In addition, Automatic will also support New York indie rock legends Yeah Yeah Yeahs at their two Splendour sideshows (Melbourne and Sydney), YYYs first Oz shows since Big Day Out in 2013.
Formed in 2017, Automatic is Izzy Glaudini (vocals, synths), Halle Saxon (bass), and Lola Dompé (drums, who is also the daughter of drummer Kevin Haskins of British goth rockers Bauhaus).
Named after a song by LA heroes The Go-Gos, the trio forgo that band's sunny pop and instead follow the maxim of The Fall's late leader Mark E Smith: "The three Rs: repetition, repetition, repetition."
In 2019, Automatic signed to LA label Stones Throw, the home of legendary hip hop albums such as Madvillain's 'Madvillainy' and J Dilla's 'Donuts'. While far from hip hop, the band's combination of throbbing rhythms and icy synths are closer to the two fantastic 'Minimal Wave' compilations the label released.
Since their signing, the band have released two albums: 2019's 'Signal' and 2022's 'Excess'.
Alongside their tour announcement, the band have released a remix of their single 'Skyscraper', remixed by GUM and Ginoli – aka Jay Watson (Pond, Tame Impala) and James Ireland (Pond).
