Australian Chamber Orchestra 2018 Season Announced

Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

The Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO) has released next year's season and it's filled with bold music that promises to challenge the mind and ignite the senses of its audiences.


Artistic Director Richard Tognetti, for his 29th year, has invited some of of the world's best musicians crafted to make their ACO debut with new music being composed by some of the most innovative and captivating of our time.

The ACO will also be celebrating their own talented musicians including Satu Vanska, Timo-Veikko Valve, Maxime Beibeau, Ike See, Glenn Christenson and also Julian Thompson who is performing as a soloist.

There are a number of special guest appearances in 2018 tour which include:
  • Nicole Car, one of Australia's most outstanding young opera singers making her debut in 2015 at the Royal Opera House
  • Steven Isserlis, a concerto soloist that appears regularly with the world's leading orchestras and conductors
  • Alina Ibragimova, a violinist that will direct the ACO programme from dark to light
  • Ilya Gringolts, a Russian violinist and composer that is making his ACO debut.

2018 ACO HIGHLIGHTS

1-16 February – Tognetti Tchaikovsky Brahms
Opening the 2018 season, Richard Tognetti and the ACO will join forces with the Australian National Academy of Music to create an emotionally powerful performance.

2-16 August – Goldberg Variations
The ACO will be giving an Australian premiere on the monumental Goldberg Variations which is known to be a not-to-miss event with

8-21 November – Tognetti's Beethoven
And to finish the season off the ACO will be presenting an all-Beethoven program featuring Richard Tognetti performing the composer's mighty Violin Converto. Richard last performed his Beethoven Violin Concerto back in 1993 and last performed with the Orchestra 11 years ago.
