Aurora Unleashes Her Inner Animal

In light of her new single 'Animal', Norwegian pop singer-songwriter Aurora is carefully considering the question: ‘What animal best suits your personality and character?'

An animal-lover with an affinity for nature, Aurora has a lot to say on the subject. “I think that any animal that looks very harmless, but could bite off your head if you weren't careful enough,” is her immediate response.

“But I do have very strong principles and I wouldn't just kill with violence; if I were an animal I would kill if I was hungry or if someone deserved to be killed – if they attacked your cub, you could kill them, if you were an animal that is. I think I would like to have fur, because I like the way it looks.

“Though my favourite animal is the frog because they can be so different; some are really poisonous and the ones that look poisonous aren't necessarily that poisonous – it's a really confusing species, isn't it?

“Also they kill the spiders and my older sisters are really afraid of spiders, so I feel like the frogs keep them safe… Maybe I would be a wolf because they are really loyal to the pack.”

'Animal' has been taken from 'Infections Of A Different Kind (Step 1)', the first half of her second album released last year with 'Step 2' still to come.

Speaking about the underlying theme of 'Animal', Aurora has said that humans are always hunting for something, that we are animals hunting animals. As a person and an artist, Aurora says the thing she is hunting for is herself.

“I think what I'm hunting for the most is the absolute Aurora album, and I hope I won't find it,” she giggles, “before I'm very old, and when I find it I will stop because then my mission is done. I am also really hungry to make the perfect song… some design that I don't even know how I made it.

“Sometimes that happens, you know: you can make a song and not remember who you were when you made it, so I'm hunting for that feeling every day and I'm hunting for everything that I can do with the music. Music can really change the world, and I think now more than ever.”

Aurora is in Australia this April and May to perform Groovin The Moo along with her own run of headline sideshows. “I'm really looking forward to it,” she says.

“I remember the first time I was in Australia. I think today I look back on it as one of the most exciting trips I've ever had because I loved the way Australia seems to be the perfect mix – you're kind, you have the big spaces and all the exciting stores and food like they do in the States, but you still have the nice homeliness feeling and authenticity as in Europe. It feels like the perfect mix of everything I like.

"So I really enjoyed being there and I love the way the people are, I love the food there and I love the animals. I really feel at home there and I love that; the fact that you have so many poisonous bugs and snakes, I think that's really cool. I think humans need to live on the edge a bit more,” she laughs.
