When it comes to German progressive trance, Audiomatic is an old hand.
With a career that began at the start of the naughties, Audiomatic is headed to Australia to play Rainbow Serpent this summer.
How is your home studio... is it finally 100 percent completed?
Yeah, all the acoustics are done. Now I'm just waiting for the custom-made table and racks. But then I will start to fill up the racks with new gear and this will be probably a never ending story.
Owning your own space to create... how has that improved your own creativity?
It’s pretty nice to be able to work all-night long, without having problems with noise complaints from the neighbours. Because there is no window and no noises from outside, it’s a bit like sitting in a bubble without contact from the world outside. So you can focus very fast on the music without distraction.
The progressive trance genre... how has it evolved/ morphed during your time as a producer?
Progressive trance in Germany has changed over the years from being the music played at the end of the party to now being the major genre inside the psytrance scene. The pioneers were acts like X-Dream, Delta, Mahasuka, Intact Instinct, SBK, Tarsis, Disco Slickers and Element. Unfortunately not many of them are active progressive producers anymore. These days the usual suspects from Spin Twist and Blue Tunes are leading the progressive movement here.
Any new productions ready for release?
Next release on Spin Twist will be my new EP, ‘Listen And Repeat’ with two collaboration tracks (Unseen Dimensions + Durs). ‘Phaxe - Drums & Guns (Audiomatic Remix)’ will feature in Phaxe’s new EP on Iboga Records. And right now we are both working on a new collaboration that will be released later this year.
Are you a tech geek?
Totally! Music production and computer technologies are my religion ;)
Away from the studio, touring life, what else occupies your time?
I like to spend time with my family and friends in my free time, while cooking is one of my biggest passions beside the music. So there is no better way to spend an evening at home with guests and cooking for them.
Do you have any superstitions?
No.
With the years you've been touring, do you have an ideal travel routine you stick to?
Get drunk, sleep and repeat until arrival.
With the amount of time you spend in airports, do you any have time-killing games?
At the moment it’s ‘Clash Of Clans'. Very addictive!
Favourite app at the moment?
It’s the calendar app on the iPhone. It help me a lot organising touring and my daily life.
You're headed to Rainbow Serpent... looking forward to the trip?
I am looking forward to it so much! I have heard only good things about the festival. So I am really happy to be part of it this time!
Your favourite Australian memory?
Indigo Evolution 2013! My first gig in Australia at a beautiful doof party was mindblowing. I enjoyed it a lot to play my set and afterwards party with the crew.
Audiomatic plays Rainbow Serpent, which takes place on 23rd-26th January.
