Audioism Breaks Through In Adelaide

Meet Wayde Richardson, owner, proprietor and full-time employee of Audioism - a brand new audio and video production company in Adelaide.

Audioism offers a full spectrum of audio and video services including a mobile recording studio that means artists no longer have to struggle with the often cold and clinical confines of traditional recording spaces.

“I had an idea that came from my own experiences with recording and I always feel quite intimidated in a traditional style studio,” Wayde explains. “So I thought to myself that if I could go to people’s houses or rehearsal space or live gigs and record them in that setting, then they’re probably going to come off with a better result because they’re more comfortable.”

Established this year with help from the Federal Government's New Enterprise Incentive Scheme (NEIS), Audioism is a bold idea that Wayde says has been received with overwhelming positivity in the local community. “A lot of my business thus far has come from word-of-mouth,” he says.

“I've [recently] started looking into more paid marketing and promotion, most of it has just been through social media and word-of-mouth. A lot of work I've been getting has been referrals from people I've already worked with.”

Although only a new venture, Wayde says Audioism has already had to expand from his original vision of a recording studio to a full-scale operation catering to extended interests. “Just due to demand I've expanded from just the recording to also offering production services – mixing and mastering, that sort of thing,” he says.

“I dabble in photography as well, and I'm also currently in the process of expanding into videography, so it’s like a one-stop shop. I can pretty much take someone’s song from the beginning all the way through recording and production; I can handle digital distribution, video clips and promotions-type aspects as well.”

With Audioism still in its infancy and needing to secure a permanent fixture on the Adelaide music market, Wayde has long-term aspirations for Audioism to become a fully-fledged independent label. “My actual aim is to eventually build it up to become somewhat of a label as well,” he says.

“Not so much in the traditional sense where an artist will sign to you and you chuck whole bunch of money at them and they have to work their backside off to try and pay it off, but more one that works in-line with the artists and assists them in whatever areas of the process that they don't have the facilities or the skills to do so.

"That’s where I want to take it in the time to come, establishing myself now with the recording and production and so forth, and build it from there.”
