Asylum Of Voices: Ipswich Battle Of The Bands Profile

Asylum Of Voices
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Formed in 2012, Asylum of Voices are a three-piece rock-grunge band from Ipswich.

They'll be competing at the 2nd Annual Ipswich Battle Of The Bands.

Name of band: Asylum of Voices.

Style of music you play?
We'd say we play alternative rock with a little bit of a grunge twist to it.

Band highlight?
Definitely this review! We haven't really been very far yet.

The band's influences?
We have too many to list... most of our influences include Nine Inch Nails, Pink Floyd, Muse, Rage Against The Machine, Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix, Weezer, Black Flag, All Time Low, There For Tomorrow, Green Day, Johnny Cash. Way to many to list.

Which act/ group would you guys love to support?
We all agree on supporting Muse. We love their light shows and stage antics. Maybe one day we'll be rich enough to throw guitars around like Matt Bellamy.

What's the biggest misconception about Ipswich?
People think that this place is just a little old coal-miners town, but that's really not true. This place has a lot of musical talent if you dive deeper into the live music bars we have around here.

The band's rider includes what?
Our singer, Pepa, must have a bottle of water on stage. At all times. Mainly to throw around or to just sit there. He never actually drinks out of it, it's quite strange.

In 12 months our band will be…
Touring hopefully. We'll be getting gigs left and right and enjoying the world with our music.

Who would be the ultimate person to be the band's spokesperson?
David Attenborough. I mean come on, he's the greatest spokesperson of them all. No, Pepa, our vocalist, is most definitely a people's person. He's the friendliest guy we know so he's perfect for the job.

Given we have a federal election underway, why should people Vote 1 Asylum of Voices?
People should vote for Asylum of Voices as we would do our best to increase the amount of homeless shelters and most definitely increase the amount of live music venues in each city. Live music is important and not many people appreciate it these days, making it harder for bands such as us to find gigs. We hope we can build a better future for musicians such as us.

Favourite music movie or documentary of all time?
We all agree on 'The Wall'. We were tossing between 'Quadrophenia' by The Who, 'Through The Never' by Metallica and 'Broken' by Nine Inch Nails. But 'The Wall' by Pink Floyd is by far the best.

If you had no budget constraints, what would you add, incorporate into your live show?
We would have amazing light shows like Pink Floyd, Nine Inch Nails and Muse. We would also have a taco van with Jon Favreau cooking amazing tacos. Because we all love the movie 'Chef'.

We spend too much time on this website/ app?
YouTube. All of the amazing music you can find from talented people.

Can you tell scenestr a joke?
If con is the opposite of pro, does that mean Congress is the opposite of progress?

The 2nd Annual Ipswich Battle Of The Bands takes place at the Ipswich City Square Saturday 2 July from 11am until 7pm.
