It was a night of soul-drenching lyrics and sounds as arguably three of WA’s best singer-songwriters celebrated Anthony Lloyd’s launch of his new single, 'Why Don’t You Say You Love Me', at Four5Nine (16 September).
The line-up, including Kaitlin Keegan and Grace Armstrong, captured the audience with imagery and stories about vivid moments in life. Each artist held the room in the palm of their hand, unique in story and expression and with a seamless reverence that flowed throughout the night.
Having recently returned from performances at BIGSOUND, Kaitlin took to the stage with popular songs such as 'Emma' from her EP 'Sadisco' as well as new music with glimmers of shy love.
Her powerful, yet lush and raspy voice helps you sway through the highs and lows of her richly-crafted songs, elevating in poignant moments, her guitar a beautiful contrast.
Grace opened with 'Why Do Birds Fly': “It’s about thinking that you’re not good enough,” she explained, her soft and natural rasp adding to the fabric of her lyrics, her sound intensifying like a wave lapping the shore, then softly withdrawing.
Her honest lyrics during new songs 'North' and 'I Don’t Speak' leave you feeling like you’ve felt this somewhere in life before and rooting for her decisions on things.
Having recently spent time at RADA Studios recording his new single 'Why Don’t You Say You Love Me', and having also recently released 'Freedom Or Torture', Anthony Lloyd felt the urge to record and release new music since returning from Japan earlier this year.
“My new music represents more of where I’m at now,” he said as he looks forward to upcoming gigs supporting Mt. Cleverest in Margaret River and performing at this year's WAMFest with more gigs to be announced.
As a man who stands proudly alongside women in music, Anthony explained that “Kaitlin and Grace are just amazing, and I’m so grateful to be playing with them tonight”.
Opening with 'Hold The Water' and playing another new song he’d recently finished, called 'I’ll Keep Walking Straight', Anthony continues to effortlessly hold an audience in the palm of his hand, just as he did the first time I saw him perform earlier this year.
It was clear by the expressions on faces in the crowd that he’d left people speechless once again, his new single is available across all good platforms. He’s one to watch at this year’s WAMFest. Save the date.
