The Red Hot Summer Tour has never been short on star power, but its latest announcement promises something truly magical.
In a dream-come-true pairing for fans of soulful indie-folk, Angus & Julia Stone are set to join the 2025 Red Hot Summer Tour line-up (featuring 13 events across Australia from October to December), alongside an all-Australian bill led by Crowded House and including The Church, Mark Seymour with Vika & Linda, and The Waifs.
For lovers of heartfelt songwriting and ethereal stage presence, this is a ticket to a shared national memory, reimagined in the open air.
Since emerging onto the scene in 2006, the sibling duo has carved out a unique space in Australian music with their delicate harmonies, evocative lyricism, and unmistakable chemistry.
From their breakout hit 'Big Jet Plane' to recent work on their latest album, 2024's 'Cape Forestier', Angus & Julia Stone have consistently balanced intimate storytelling with global appeal.
With over 600 million streams and 5 ARIA Awards to their name, their inclusion in the Red Hot Summer Tour feels not just timely but essential. Speaking about their upcoming performances, Julia revealed the duo has curated a set list that blends the best of the old with glimpses of the new.
"We've been talking about the set being a really fun mix of tracks from across all the different records that we've made – of course including the ones that people mostly want to hear, like 'Big Jet Plane' and 'Chateau'," she says.
Perhaps what excites the pair even more than performing their hits is the opportunity to share the stage with music legends. "I love Crowded House," Julia adds, reflecting on past shared stages with the iconic band.
"They're such lovely people, and the camaraderie on stage is so clear. Watching them feels like being at a Fleetwood Mac show – people singing every word, completely connected. It's really special."
That sense of connection – between performers, between audience members, between memory and moment – is at the heart of what Angus & Julia Stone bring to their music.
Julia speaks movingly about the early days of her songwriting, crediting her father's bookshelf of classic literature as an unlikely muse. "I used to sit with my guitar in front of the bookshelf and sing the titles of books that connected with each other. . . and all of a sudden, a song would start to come."
It's a process as whimsical as it is organic – what she calls "tricking yourself into writing a song," echoing a piece of advice once revealed by Tim Finn.
Among the highlights of their storied career was working with legendary producer Rick Rubin – an experience that helped strengthen the sibling bond during a time of personal and creative fatigue.
"Rick really provided a space for us to understand each other, initially through music and then just by being an incredible listener. I've never felt so truly heard," Julia recalls.
Beyond the music, Angus & Julia's ethos is one of quiet activism – centring themes of love, empathy, and unity. "We've talked about the importance of bringing people together," Julia says. "No matter where we come from or what we believe in, we're all looking for the same things: love, safety, connection. That's what we try to bring with our shows."
As for what's next? Fans will be pleased to know new music is on the horizon. "There is truth to the rumour," Julia confirms with a smile. "We've been in and out of some amazing studios, and we're working towards a new record in the near future."
Until then, audiences across regional Australia will be treated to the next best thing: Angus & Julia Stone, live and in full bloom, bringing their songs—and their spirit—home.
The Stones have never been overtly political in their music, but Julia reflected on their role as artists. "We've written a few songs in response to world events, but mostly we focus on love and how people relate to each other. "When we play a show, we want to remind people that we're not so different – we all want the same, basic things."
With new music on the way and a return to live touring, Angus & Julia Stone are ready to bring their music to more audiences across Australia. "We're excited to be part of this tour. It's a great line-up, and it's always a privilege to play in regional places and meet new crowds."
