Update: The Long Sunset has moved to Sat 30 April, 2022. Hatchie has been replaced by Jack Gray and Clea.
From the same crew who presented the Queensland Music Trails earlier this year, arrives a new, annual boutique live music event – The Long Sunset.
To take place in the picturesque surroundings of Elysian Fields (in the heart of Canungra, home of the Wangerriburra people) located in the Scenic Rim region (just an hour's drive from Surfers Paradise, Byron Bay and Brisbane), The Long Sunset (12 February) will feature headliners Angus & Julia Stone performing for the first time in Queensland since 2018.The folk-pop sibling duo will be joined by Brisbane indie giants Ball Park Music who recently released the single 'Sunscreen', their first new music in 12 months.
Rounding out the bill for The Long Sunset will be Byron Bay-based psychedelic group Babe Rainbow ('Peace Blossom Boogy') and dream-pop act Hatchie, who'll be landing in Australia direct from New York for the event.
"It's been a really long time since Angus and I have had the chance to make our way up to Queensland to perform together," Julia Stone says.
"It's a truly beautiful part of the world. We can't wait to head north again and perform as the sun sets and the night comes alive. It's going to be electric."
Ball Park Music recently received three 2021 ARIA Awards nominations including Best Rock Album and Best Independent Release. "This is a classic example of what I like to call a patchwork song," Sam Cromack says on the writing 'Sunscreen'.
"From nowhere, and for no particular reason, you suddenly assemble a song from all these unrelated sketches that you haven't been able to finish.
"Songs like this always make me nervous because I get lured into thinking that perhaps they're inauthentic; that there's no theme or through-line.
"But songs like this are cool, they work in a mysterious way. Their fragmented lines come from all over your mind to congregate and share some special message that's been dying to get out. Sometimes it feels fateful even.
"This song was like a slap in the face. It said, 'Hey bozo you're hopelessly addicted to your phone. Time to put that sh.t down!' So, here it is. 'Sunscreen'. Protect yourself out there."
Not only an adventure to indulge in live music feels, The Long Sunset also provides ample opportunity to explore a region bursting with breathtaking vistas, fertile farmlands and warm and welcoming hospitality.
"It can sometimes be difficult to capture or define Queensland's cultural identity, but it's undeniable that the unique character of our landscape is at its heart," QMF CEO Joel Edmondson says.
"Bringing world-class music to stunning places in regional Queensland is our passion because it's one of the best ways to immerse visitors in what Queensland is all about.
"We are thrilled to debut The Long Sunset, an event that is sure to become an iconic, annual feature of the Queensland Music Trails in the years to come."
