When paired together on stage, AJ and Kim are the acoustic cover duo Amongst The Vines.
Although the duo is only six-months old, they have knuckled down already establishing themselves as quality wedding performers who love to bring feelings of happiness, love and excitement to their acoustic cover songs.
Singer Kim, describes her love for playing at weddings as something that cannot be beaten. “Sitting down and working out the setlist and songs with a soon-to-be-married couple is just the best feeling. It’s such an honour to be a part of that special day.”
The duo will be broadening their horizons by bringing their passion and excitement to the Umbrella: Winter City Sounds this July. The Adelaide-based festival looks to showcase and assist small, upcoming bands by presenting a great variety of music, creating an inviting and energised vibe in the city.
The duo will be playing as part of the opening day celebrations of Winter City Sounds; Kim says the opportunity to play was too fantastic not to miss. “We both thought it was just a fantastic opportunity that we had to get involved with. The festival is new and will be showcasing great Adelaide talents. Not only will it be a great opportunity to promote our new band, but it will also be a great atmosphere to be a part of. It’s very rewarding to be opening the festival.”
AJ and Kim have a strong love and connection for the Adelaide Hills region, which is reflected in their band's name. “We eventually would love to tour interstate, we would never say no. But we have such a love for the Adelaide Hills region, there are fantastic opportunities her to perform in the wineries and connect with other artists. We definitely want to tour, but also what to stay home in a sense and stay based in this region.”
In the six-month period the pair have been playing together, they've had opportunities to play multiple weddings as well as perform at the Adelaide Zoo. “We performed near the gorilla enclosures, we had all the animals right up against the windows and fences of their enclosures. It was definitely a different audience and a great experience.”
The duo is looking to add to their experiences by playing more weddings and possibly playing shows at the many wineries in the area. As the pair is relatively new, their plans are open ended with them looking to explore writing and recording their own songs as an EP down the track. “We are recording covers and look to record our own songs down the track. We have a great producer that we work with, we are very excited to record.”
Amongst The Vines plays the Spice Market Restaurant, Adelaide Rockford, as part of Umbrella: Winter City Sounds 15 July.
