Five-piece band All Year Round are getting ready to break through the borders of South Australia.
“We're practising every Monday and Wednesday night,” vocalist Jacqueline Kyriacou says, “and all of our other spare time is spent organising shows and promotions, working with the other bands to make sure we get as many people there as we can and making sure we put on a good show for those people who do come.”
The group are set to embark on a national tour in April following the release of their newest EP, 'In Perspective'. “We wrote pretty much all of the songs before hand,” Kyriacou says. “There was only one song that, once we got to the studio, we had to change all the lyrics. We're from Adelaide, and we drove over to Sydney to record with a guy call Dave Petrovic from Electric Sun Studio. We were there for two weeks... and now we're back, we're getting everything organised for the release.”
The EP, 'In Perspective', features their single, 'Larry', which follows the story of a love triangle between the protagonist; his controlling and unfaithful girlfriend; and his female best friend, who has an unreciprocated love for him and tries to warn him of his girlfriend's ways. When Larry finally catches his girlfriend cheating, he realises his best friend has been there for him all along, and he does, in fact, have feelings for her — but it's too late. She's moved on, because he didn't appreciate her. Aww.
“It's not my experience,” Kyriacou says, “but it's my sisters. So I basically put myself in her shoes. I feel like I've been through that before anyway, as I'm sure other girls have, when you like a guy but he doesn't like you back and you want him to notice you.”
Of course, plenty of people are starting to notice All Year Round. “We want to head to the States next year,” Kyriacou says. “Ultimately we want to be touring a lot, and hopefully five years from now we will be able to headline our own shows overseas and have people watch us.”
