Electronic wonder-woman Alice Ivy takes the next, great leap in her career with the release of her debut album ‘I’m Dreaming’.

In making the boldest impression with her first full-length offering, Alice says she wanted to create a balanced experience for the listener, rather than produce a mere collection of disjointed songs. “I feel like I’m a really big fan of listening to albums start to finish and I really wanted to take the listener on a journey when listening to [my album],” Alice explains.

“I feel really strongly about mid-album instrumentals, I think that stuff is so cool. When you listen to that first [The] Avalanches records or even indie-pop bands like Phoenix, breaking up the album in the middle with an instrumental track is sick. I really wanted to keep that balance across the album instead of just having non-stop bangers across it, because I feel like it’s a nicer listening experience.”

Due for release in early February, ‘I’m Dreaming’ is already a highly-anticipated album for 2018 and may prove to be the stepping stone for Alice from emerging artist to eminent producer. “I still feel like I’m emerging,” Alice laughs.

“I’ve been producing for two-and-a half years and releasing my own music properly for a year-and-a-half and only just getting used to actually being on the road all the time.

“I feel like I’m going to be an emerging artist for the next ten years. I’m going to keep striving for more and I’m hungry for more so we'll see where the road takes me, I guess.”

This February and March, the road will take Alice on a national tour for ‘I’m Dreaming’ with support from Nasty Mars and Oh Boy, plus others. “I’m excited to be playing shows with really sick people that I totally respect,” Alice says.

“Playing to a crowd of people who spent money on tickets to come see you, it's still something I’m not used to. I feel like I’ve done my fair share of really sh*t shows, I’ve worked really hard and getting to the point where I’m playing in front of crowds in Sydney and Brisbane who know the lyrics to my music, it's an unreal feeling.”

Alice’s success is certainly no dream and has been hard-won by the young Melbourne-based producer who is quickly ticking things off her music to-do list.

“It's always hard being any kind of artist but I feel that as an emerging artist… you’re always doing things and ticking them off your list; like last year doing Splendour and Falls, and selling out a headline show in Melbourne a couple of times, doing three headline tours and supporting international artists, they were all goals I had.”

With ‘I’m Dreaming’ due in February, for the rest of this year Alice says she has determined plans to keep producing new music and playing live shows; perhaps unsurprisingly for an artist like Alice, she already has album number two in the works.

“The 2018 goal for Alice Ivy is to finish making a second record,” she says.

‘I’m Dreaming’ is released 9 February.
