Albion Place Release New Album 'Mascuzzi Jacuzzi', Tour Australia This Summer

Albion Place
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

New Zealand indie rockers Albion Place will take flight across the ditch next month and tour Australia to showcase their new album, ‘Mascuzzi Jacuzzi’.

‘Mascuzzi Jacuzzi’ is a coming-of-age album that's both soulful and groovy, combining funky rhythms with psychedelic-synth undertones that showcase the band’s dynamic, indie-rock sound.

The band consist of Micah Davis-Rae (vocals/ guitar); Tom Kelk (bass); Hugh Fulton (vocals/ keys) and Jack Ferguson (drums).

Hailing from in Dunedin in New Zealand, the lads started busking on the streets forming the band’s name after one of the streets they used to busk on.

Micah says that when listening to ‘Mascuzzi Jacuzzi’ you can hear the influences of music legends such as John Lennon, The Strokes, The Beach Boys and Bob Marley. “It’s not just one artist we found inspiration from; it’s a mixture of Marley and maybe some Lennon. It’s never just one artist at a time.”

When creating the album, Micah says there wasn’t a guideline they followed; rather, the band went into the process with no definite end-goal. “We had no pre-conceptions of what we might be aiming for.

"We just played around with instrumentals and went into the studio and what came out was those ten tracks and [they] kind of stuck.”

The band started recording their third album earlier this year breaking down the creative process into three sessions of songwriting and three sessions of recording while also juggling their final year of university.

Micah says the one song on the album that is a great representation of the entire album as a whole is ‘Sweet Delusion’. “I like it because it’s a bit of an earworm. I think the lyrics are a fairly good representation of what the whole album is about.”

Back home in NZ and Albion Place have crafted a burgeoning name for themselves, selling out most of their local shows for their recent tour. Micah believes having the support of their hometown is incredibly important.

When asked about their long-term goals, Micah says they're hoping to make contacts in North America for them to tour their one day.

When they're Australia next month, the lads will be spending plenty of time by the water, with Micah looking forward to catching some waves and finally learning how to surf.

Not only are they looking forward to checking out the coastal scene, they're also incredibly excited to see the support acts that will be opening the band's shows.

Fans of Albion Place can expect a more upbeat sound from their live shows, Micah explaining they will 'amp up' their music for more of a party vibe. “The album is quite mellow, with a relaxed vibe. However we like to step it up a notch when we a performing live.”

'Mascuzzi Jacuzzi' is available now.
