Irish expat Áine Tyrrell will support her newest single, 'People Like Me And You', with an 11-date tour commencing later this month.
Penned from a deeply personal perspective, with Áine relocating to Australia with her three young children after after a decade of domestic violence, 'People Like Me And You' is a heartfelt, passionate empowerment message that everyone with a heart will embrace.Alongside the poignant lyrics like 'raise myself up, grow myself up, on my way up', the track is an upbeat funky bop blending rock-soul-R&B-hip-hop tones that offers a powerful anthem addressing the global issue of violence against women.
"We're not just releasing music; we're shifting things, making change, one step at a time," Áine says. "Our mission is to raise awareness, hope, and to holistically bring art into healing spaces."
Áine has teamed with Hot Brown Honey and First Nations film studio Wirrim Media who have handled the creative direction of the song's music video, which is directed and produced by Busty Beatz and features Riah Pelesa.
The clip intricately weaves together the story of Miriam, a Samoan woman navigating the challenges of single motherhood, eviction, and rediscovery of her artistic path. Through Miriam's journey, the video embodies themes of resilience, hope, and the power of self-discovery.
Written after a defining moment during her 2023 Splendour In The Grass performance, where Áine remembered all she had battled and overcome, 'People Like Me And You' is also a social advocacy project. Áine and her team will provide resources to grassroots organisations supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
"I wrote this for us. About us rising from the heavy. And there is some heavy in this song, some hard-hitting messages that we will unpack together over the coming weeks," Áine says, "but it is all held in an irresistible beat by my brother Dobby to help us move it through. Move through the heavy and remind us that #icantoo.
"I wanted to send a song love note back down the lines, a message I wish I had heard and so today on its release, I just hope it reaches into you and gives you something to move one dancing step forward with. Remember, if I'm standing here, I'm telling you know, you can too. Grá Mór."
