AG’s Finally Heading Down Under

AG
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

At long last American rapper AG will tour Australia for the first time next month.

“It's been a long time trying to make it happen but I'm glad it's happening now,” AG says from his Brooklyn home.

The rapper who teamed with Showbiz back in the early ‘90s to create the Diggin’ In The Crates collective that would also feature Fat Joe, O.C. and Bucklwild is looking forward to his visit to our shores.

“I'm from the South Bronx and I carry that with me. So you know, I want to give them hip hop music, let them witness a pure lyrist. I give a lot of energy and give my heart there so I think it's going to be a unique experience … I’m excited to perform a lot of songs.”

Currently AG co-runs his own label, Red Apples Forty-Five, while juggling a number of side projects. “I have a few projects coming out. Showbiz and I are working on an album called 'While You Were Sleeping' and that should be out once we finish.

“But the album that I'm working on is called 'The Taste Of Ambrosia'. I’m really excited and looking forward to getting to see that one out. It's not finished yet but I'm taking my time with it. It's like my thirteenth project and fifth album so it's a special number for me and it features a lot of artists that I respect and a lot of different production.

“I think people are really going to like it. It's refreshing and it's really nostalgic in a way because the content is basically about pure hip hop, you know, decent.”

AG’s back catalogue is littered with collaborations including: Lord Finesse, Diamond D and DJ Premier to name a few.

However, the rapper believes his solo work provides him with the opportunity to truly express who he is as an artist. "When I do solo albums there's no compromising. So the solo album gives me the opportunity to fully express myself in the way that I want to.

“This is something that I want to do for the rest of my life … This music is like my child … It's all I have. It is the one thing that I do better than anything else so I’m going to try to keep doing that.”
