The day you've been waiting for has finally arrived. Thanks to youth not-for-profit YGAP, you can finally justify your latest alcohol binge with: “But it's to help the kids in Africa."
Afreakya 2 is the latest fundraiser gig out of YGAP – it will be held at iconic Melbourne venue Ding Dong on Wednesday, October 17 in order to raise additional funds for the next batch of projects, which will take place in Rwanda and Ghana in October and November. The proceeds will go directly toward the projects, which include building classrooms at a primary school in Rwanda and assisting to end child trafficking in fishing village Lake Volta in Ghana by improving the educational environment and offering rescued slave children a second chance at life. It's also a great way to say “hey, thanks” to the volunteers who have put up their hands to help the less fortunate.
Musical entertainment will be provided by bands Alex Lashlie's Growl and I, A Man, as well as a line up of DJs to ensure the party rages on into the morning. Entry is a meagre $10, and the drinks will be plentiful.
It's your ethical obligation to get drunk for a good cause.
YGAP was established in 2008 – it's an organisation that offers generous young souls a chance to travel overseas and experience volunteering without having to do severe damage to their bank account. So far, their volunteers have helped to build five classrooms at Ntenyo Primary School in Rwanda, where the graduation rates have improved from 0 to 94%. They've also rescued 38 children from slavery in Lake Volta, as well as helping to construct 10 classrooms which educate 185 children.
Afreakya 2 is the second event of its kind. It's taking place at Ding Dong Lounge on October 17, from 6pm until late.
