South Australia’s iconic hotel, The Governor Hindmarsh (aka ‘The Gov’) has won the AHA(SA) Award for Excellence for Live Music Venue 2017.

Spiritual home of live music in the state, The Gov has been going strong under the ownership of the Tonkin family for 24 years. The award acknowledges the venue’s success in every element of operations, including state of the art light and sound; artist support from announcement to performance; excellent customer service; well-maintained, safe and inclusive facilities; and much, much more.

Hotel owner, Jo Tonkin, attended the awards event alongside Hotel Manager, Kat Teale and Venue Manager, Coco Hübner.

Jo says it is an honour for the hotel to be recognised. “Music is the beating heart of The Gov,” Jo says. “So much energy goes into creating a space where everyone can experience great live performance, feel safe and have the best time of their lives.

“It’s great to be recognised by AHA-SA for the hard work of The Gov’s fantastic staff and also for the artists who keep coming back to bring their magic to the stage.”

Venue Manager, Coco Hübner, says The Gov is a special workplace. “It’s great to work for a predominantly female-run music venue, with a strong team. It’s the people who make The Gov come together. We are a family and I couldn't be happier to be a part of such an amazing place.”
