The legendary Van Dyke Parks — featuring special guest Daniel Johns — will headline Adelaide Festival in 2013.
Running from Friday March 1 to Sunday March 17, the Festival features 53 events, and will officially integrate world music festival WOMADelaide into its program.
Van Dyke Parks is best known for his work alongside Brian Wilson on The Beach Boys' Smile (and, in Australia, for his work on the last two Silverchair albums). He'll perform a career retrospective, accompanied by Johns and the Adelaide Art Orchestra.
Other program highlights include a free opening night concert in Elder Park with Paul Kelly and Neil Finn; a series of concerts spotlighting New York indie label Brassland (founded by The National members Aaron and Bryce Dessner), featuring Doveman, This Is The Kit, Jherek Bischoff Buke & Gase, Deerhoof, Bryce Dessner and Clogs; the reformation of Severed Heads; Archie Roach performing new album Into The Bloodstream with his gospel band; and Kronos Quartet collaborations with Bryce Dessner and Laurie Anderson.
