While Australia argues about whether or not Eddie McGuire's awkward attempt at topical humour was actually racist, America has bigger things to worry about: Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine hates it.
The singer, who serves as a judge on the American version of The Voice, was caught saying "I hate this country" on Tuesday night's episode of the show. The comment, at 1:14 of the below video, came just before America's votes eliminated two of the contestants he mentors, Judith Hill and Sarah Simmons. It seems like a safe bet that Levine didn't realise his mic was on.
Perhaps realising that this was no way to thank America for helping his shitty band sell 10 million albums, Levine quickly backtracked by tweeting a series of dictionary definitions.

Someone in Levine's camp soon realised that implying Americans were simply too stupid to understand his sophisticated sense of humour might not help him out so much with the whole "convincing everyone you don't hate America" thing, so a graceful mea culpa was made to Us Weekly.
"I obviously love my country very much," Levine said, "and my comments last night were made purely out of frustration.
"Being a part of The Voice, I am passionately invested in my team and want to see my artists succeed. Last night's elimination of Judith and Sarah was confusing and downright emotional for me and my comments were made based on my personal dissatisfaction with the results."
That's settled, then. Adam Levine is a goddamn patriot, and Americans should be ashamed they ever questioned their faith in their hero.
Except... how do you explain this photo, then, Adam?
