53,000 Accadacca fans stormed the Adelaide Oval on a sunny Saturday to witness one of the most influential hard rock bands in history.
AC/DC came to 'Rock Or Bust'. I arrived early, as I wanted a chance to mingle with other fans and hear stories – some from fans from the other side of the world. One woman told me that she had been standing in line to enter the stadium since 10:30am just to get the perfect spot in front of the stage.
AC/DC had come to show Adelaide a good time and that is just what they did. Even though Malcolm wasn’t there to rock out with them, I could hear fans in the crowd shout out his name from time to time and you could tell that he was there in spirit. The show consisted of a three-minute opening video using images from some of their most well-known songs and ended with an almighty bang and shower of pyrotechnics. From the giant bell, to the cannons and the fireworks, you couldn’t have asked for a better show.
Off the back of their 2014 release of 'Rock Or Bust', Angus, Brian, Cliff, Chris and the nephew of Malcolm and Angus; Stevie, showed there ain’t no slowing down these hard rockers anytime soon.
With an extensive set-list that comprised a lot of the classics – that keep bringing the fans to see AC/DC and spend their hard earned money on tickets and merchandise – it was great to see that they did throw in three songs off the latest record. But 'Thunderstruck', 'Hells Bells' and 'T.N.T' was what they came for.
It was great to hear AC/DC throw in a couple of the rarer songs such as 'Have A Drink On Me' and 'Shot Down In Flames' but you could see that the crowd really did miss two songs that I know I would have liked to hear them play; 'The Jack' and 'Jailbreak'.
It was great to be able to look down from my spot and see all the younger generations rocking along to such great music and it made me laugh when I heard on more than one occasion from people around my age and older saying 'now that is parenting done right'. It really made the whole thing feel so much more alive to know that this music is being passed down from father to son, from mother to daughter.
All the fans knew the last four songs of the night; 'Whole Lotta Rosie' (which saw the giant inflatable doll come to life), 'Let There Be Rock', 'Highway To Hell' and – one of the best song that I can think of to round out the night – 'For Those About To Rock'.
Even though Christmas is just a month away, those flashing devil horns could’ve been mistaken for Santa’s favourite reindeer. After 42 years of rocking the world over, many have to ask is this the last time AC/DC tour. If it is then all we have to say is WE SALUTE YOU!!!!
