A gathering of likeminded artists to celebrate First Nations community ahead of the 2023 Referendum, Now & Forever is a special one-day event to be staged in Shepparton (6 October) with an all-star line-up.
The idea was first seeded in Shepparton, Yorta Yorta Woka, quickly building widespread support and enthusiasm across First Nations leaders, the live music industry, the local community and broader region."I had to bring this home because this is where I grew up," declares rapper Briggs, a Yorta Yorta man from Shepparton.
"We have a once in a generation opportunity to write our future together, and the artists on the bill have signed up for that.
"This is about celebration, inclusivity, solidarity, positivity and listening, as much as it is about a voice. In that spirit, everyone is welcome to the show – even the undecided voters. And if you don't know, just come to the show."
Briggs has invited some of the country's brightest indigenous voices: Baker Boy, Barkaa, Emma Donovan and Mo'ju to champion the cause alongside Hilltop Hoods, Jimmy Barnes and Paul Kelly. Briggs will also perform with Trials as A.B. Original. The day will be hosted by funnyman Sam Phang.
A collaboration between Bad Apples Music and the Dungala Kaiela Foundation with Frontier Touring, Live Nation Australia, Live Performance Australia, and TEG Live, Now & Forever will be a picnic-style event staged at Shepparton Showgrounds with a single stage featuring special guest appearances and collaborations throughout the day.
Tickets are on sale and priced to be affordable to everyone ($21.50). "We understand Shepparton is going to be a destination for a lot of people, and I'm aware of the obstacles," Briggs says.
"I want to make this accessible for everyone and be able to give back to local and national charities doing good work."
Adds Evelyn Richardson, CEO, Live Performance Australia: "On behalf of our live music and entertainment industry, we're proud to stand alongside our artists who are stepping up and speaking out in support of Yes and the opportunity for Australians to come together to recognise our First Nations people, to listen, and walk together to create a better future."
Now & Forever takes place at Shepparton Showgrounds (Yorta Yorta Woka) on 6 October.
