7 Fast Facts With Siobhan Cotchin

Siobhan Cotchin is a country singer-songwriter from Western Australia.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

The second half of 2022 has been super busy for Perth singer-songwriter Siobhan Cotchin.

A successful trip east to showcase at music conference BIGSOUND was followed by five nominations for the 2022 WAM Awards where she ended up winning three gongs: Best EP, Best Vocalist and Best Country Act.

Fresh from an east-coast run of live shows, Siobhan has a trio of home state shows (Fremantle, Margaret River and Dunsborough) to wrap up the year before another run of shows early January supporting The Audreys.

Siobhan is also promoting her current single 'How Does It Feel?', a track fans of Julia Jacklin, Kacey Musgraves, Lucy Dacus can get around.

"'How Does It Feel?' is about being with someone that doesn't give you exactly what you deserve. Instead of returning the love you give them, they just take it and take you for granted," Siobhan says.

"The message I want listeners to take away from this song is to never change for someone else and know your worth."

"I had the lyrics for a while and wrote the melody and chords after watching a Baby Animals documentary," continues Cotchin. "I was so inspired by Suze DeMarchi and her powerful vocals and just pure rock & roll energy, so I wanted to recreate it in my own way."

Here, Siobhan shares seven facts about herself you probably didn't know.

1: I have three pet mice named Reba, June and Emmylou. They're all named after country singers!

2: I was a huge theatre kid in high school. I did drama up until Year 12 and was part of pretty much every show or musical I could audition for. A highlight was playing Elle Woods in 'Legally Blonde'.

3: I'm a Taurus sun, virgo rising and Scorpio moon. Basically, I'm stubborn af, dramatic af and an absolute perfectionist. Yes, I'm an astrology girly and no I will not apologise.

4: I am a huge homebody and love spending time alone. It's the way I recharge and prepare myself for creating and being on stage. I really enjoy being home on a Friday night, in my jammies by 7pm, curled up in bed with a book and Snowbell, of course.

5: I used to do modelling lessons when I was 7. . . SO EMBARRASSING! Clearly they haven't paid off.

6: When I was 12 I got the chance to meet Taylor Swift's band when they were in Perth for the 'Red Tour'. Mum and I were staying in the same hotel as them and we were on the SAME FLOOR as Taylor! I was so close to meeting her. . . One day.

7: The first song I ever learnt to play on guitar was 'Hotel California' by Eagles.
