Do you love to dance? Are you less fond of high heels or leotards and more of dancing in PJs in your lounge room? No Lights No Lycra might be answer to your all your dance desires.
At the heart of No Lights No Lycra (NLNL) is the belief that everyone can dance. It’s a global dance community about inclusive and non-judgmental dance floors, for people to come together and dance like no-one’s watching; because they’re not, it’s too dark. There is no light, no lycra, no teacher, no steps to learn, no technique, just free movement. It’s daggy and sweaty and fabulous.
The six dance-ambassadors who organise Adelaide’s three NLNL locations have given their top tracks to get down on the dancefloor to.
'Boogie Wonderland' by Earth, Wind & Fire
The clue is in the title, really. This song allows me to channel my inner disco – high kicks, jazz hands, struts, shimmies - the works! Also, like wearing a poncho, it is impossible to be unhappy while dancing to this song. (Cassie)'DJ Turn It Up' by Yellow Claw
Recently I've gotten into trap music, and this song epitomises everything I enjoy about the genre. The heavy and rhythmic bass allows for some crazy dance moves in the dark. (Leanne)'Hyperparadise' by Flume
My body just loves to get loose to it – so I let it. (Megan)'Say It' by Robyn & Royksopp
I picked this song because I love Robyn, but also because it's got a ridiculously addictive beat and I find it irresistible! (Hannah)'Jungle Boogie' by Kool & The Gang
This is a track that was featured on the opening night of NLNL down at Henley Beach. The horns just demand explosive movement and its walking bass lines definitely bring back the 70’s funk feels that we’ve all been missing. (Jacob)'Hoops' by Chemical Brothers
I love getting lost in the beats for seven minutes. (Suha)No Lights No Lycra takes place all over Australia and around the world.
