Channel V has played out its 50 Top Anthems of the last 20 years.
Unsurprisingly, urban and pop releases dominated the chart reflecting those music genre sales over the same period.
The absolute Aussie – actually any – standout is Tones & I stealing #2 right at the death with her global, mega-smash 'Dance Monkey'. Other Aussies on the scoreboard are first-name heroes: Kylie, Sia and Wally.
Jay Z appeared most (four times) albeit with the aid of collaborators. The Beebs made three, as did Beyoncé (if you include Destiny's Child) and the happy and lucky Pharrell Williams twice.
Billy Ray Cyrus made the cut (no, not for *that* one) while his wild child daughter missed out. No listing for 'Blurred Lines' either. The oldest was Blink 182's 'All The Small Things'. From 1999 (sorry about that).
And for those who like to keep track; female representation was 28 out 50 (56%).
