Fresh off the stage at Ultra Miami, Milo & Otis return to Australia this month with their new single, 'Diamondz'.
The duo have been behind some of the biggest remixes of the past 12 months. From their re-work of Zedd’s track featuring Selena Gomez, ‘I Want You To Know’, to the Skrillex and Kill The Noise’s single ‘Recess’, both of which have been streamed over 4.5 million times.
Here, the guys recount a couple of WTF moments they've experienced at festivals.
1. During the Mothership tour in 2014 we stopped to play a show in Canada. At that show there were two kids that showed up to our set and stood there. Frozen. Staring. The whole set. The following year when we returned to play Veld, everybody threw their hands up to one of our songs when I noticed something odd.. two people in the crowd were frozen. Staring.
2. Rolled up to Electric Zoo and was hanging out. No sign of inclement weather. We get to our stage and we start to perform. It's raging in the tent. We are about 20 minutes into our set and the tent is packed. All of a sudden more people try flooding into the tent, it gets soooo crammed that people can't move. The tent is also moving a lot and it looks like it's raining out side. Forty minutes in, everything turns off. No lights, no mic, no power, nothing. Intercom loudspeaker says there's a hurricane/ tornado warning in effect! Festival shuts down completely.
3. It's Hard summer 2014. We were coordinating to meet up before our set and agree that 30 minutes should be enough time to chill and then go on. I (Milo) show up and I'm waiting for Otis. Fifteen minutes go by. “Hey man where are you?” Otis replies: “Be there in like 5.” Another twelve minutes go by. Another minute. Another minute. We play in one minute. Fuck it! I grab my flash drive and set-up on stage. Guess Otis isn't making it; sweating my ass off and the crowd is probably wondering where the hell Otis is, two minutes have gone by. The other DJ is finished. Music is off. I look one more time to see if Otis is coming. Nope. Look at the crowd, and I hit play. Then in the corner of my eye I see a hand reach over and plug in a USB. Talk about a close call.
4. One time Brillz and us were playing the same stage as Waka Flocka. That's pretty epic 'cause at the time Waka was the man. We finish up and Brillz goes on. We are chilling back stage and towards the end of Brillz' set the stage manager lets everyone backstage know Waka isn't gonna make it and Brillz will continue playing for another hour. Brillz comes up to us: “Yo guys wanna do some back-to-back shit?” We are like “hell ya!”. Bad idea. You don't wanna be the guy to tell the crowd, “hey so-n-so isn't showing but you got us back! Again!” We start playing again, and I tell everyone Waka isn't showing. “BOOOOOOO!!!”; the stage was shutdown five minutes later anyway.
5. Wrong meet and greet. So we are at Something Wonderful and we have an interview and a meet and greet before our set. Usually, meet and greets we kick it with a few fans and talk about where we are from etc. They are pretty stoked to hang and talk about other artists and stuff. Well these three girls walk into our artist trailer. The coordinator says: “Hey guys here's the meet and greet people” and leaves. First thing one of the girls says: “this isn't the bathroom. I thought this was the bathroom.” We are like “OK. So where are you guys from? From around here?” We start small talking. Then one of the girls says “man this line-up this year sucks I don't like anyone here” and I say “except for us right?” And she says: “wait who are y'all?” And we say “Milo & Otis” and she says: “OMG wait I have heard of you guys I think... how much does it cost to book y'all? Y'all ever played in Texas?” I said “this is a strange meet and greet! Haha.” They all go: “wait, this is a meet and greet?” #facepalm
