Sydney-based musician anseo aka singer-songwriter Luke James Smith recently released his new EP, 'Wilder Shades'; four songs that explore the intrinsic value of love and loss.
Luke has been writing, recording and performing acoustic gigs for several years. Much like the those before him who gigged heavily before working on their original compositions, 'Wilder Shades' is strengthened by Luke's experience as a performer.
In Irish, 'anseo' translates as here or present. It was chosen as a reminder not to always look pensively ahead at the unknown, but to live for the moment, to never forget that creating music is more about loving the ride than reaching the destination.
Here, Luke shares 5 of his favourite crime-comedy films of all-time.
5: 'The Guard' (2011)
Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle absolutely nail their roles in this Irish buddy-cop film. It's rude and it's violent, but good grief is it entertaining.
4: 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang' (2005)
The name says it all really. It features a clean-shaven, pre-Iron Man Robert Downey Jr and a resurgent Val Kilmer in the lead roles, this film reminds me of 'L.A. Confidential', only much, much funnier.
3: 'In Bruges' (2008)
Brilliant, funny, but also disarmingly earnest; starring Colin Farrell and grounded once again by a killer performance from Brendan Gleeson. Somehow most quotable and the least politically correct movie on this list.
2: 'Lucky Number Slevin' (2006)
All I knew going in to this movie was the impressive cast (who were amazing, by the way). But it was its script and ridiculous set design that really did it for me. I recommend going in blind like I did; you can thank me later.
1: 'The Nice Guys' (2016)
The second entry on this list (after 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang') to feature writer-director Shane Black. This movie is – in my opinion – hands down the most hilarious buddy-cop movie ever made. It's also one of the most entertaining movies I've ever seen. Period.
