5 Ways To Beat Stress Shared By The Stress Of Leisure

The Stress Of Leisure share 5 tips to relieve stress levels.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

The Stress Of Leisure are a sun-skewered 'faux wave' indie outfit from Brisbane featuring Ian Powne (guitar/ vocals), Pascalle Burton (keys/synths), Jane Elliott (bass) and Jessica Moore (drums).

It is the sound of their absurdity that instantaneously corners and welcomes you.

The band are the true underdogs of the music scene – always ready, always strategising and poised for an upset victory.

Yeah? Nah? Let them bite your heels with all music no wave.

Here, the group share a few techniques to alleviate your stress levels. Charmers.

Smell the roses

Some people try talcum powder, cocaine, speed, or bi-carb, but for us, nothing beats a rose.

Picture this: It's May, you're in New Farm Park, you've an imaginary West Highland Terrier named Monty. You lean into the rose.

Make your own coffee

Not to be too precious, but this is a pod-free zone. Whether you have your own machine or stovetop press, this ritual is the best.

Have an understanding with your housemates that once the coffee is brewed, you need time alone. No new conversations at this point.

Get a scalp massage at the hairdresser

This is not a sexual transaction. You remember the last time you were held like a baby and you sobbed like a wet animal. So many thoughts, so much pleasure.

Post-rehearsal meal

When you're on a good thing, celebrate it. Have a meal together. There's nothing like putting a ribbon on a rehearsal than a post-meal catch-up. Intra-band gossip is out of the way. This is pure nourishment.

Stare at a bookshelf

Some people like to colour code or alphabetise. For some people, random rules. The bigger the better.

The world is a vast expanse of wonder. You're never going to read it all. Some books just look good on a shelf and never get read. The fact that you're looking at them means something.

The Stress Of Leisure will support Regurgitator when they presents their Tu-Plang Redux shows at Princess Theatre (Brisbane) 19-20 May. Screamfeeder are also part of the line-up.
