The brainchild of musician Darren Griffis, Back In Blue is a tribute album commemorating 35 years since the release of AC/DC's 'Back In Black'.
With track recordings from some of Australia’s best blues artists (Ball Aitken, Geoff Achison, Lachy Doley, Shaun Kirk, Lloyd Spiegel, Gail Paige, Genevieve Chadwick, Chase the Sun, Marshall Okell and Playskool). “The sales of the CD/ vinyl LP will not only raise funds for Beyond Blue, but will also provide a tangible reminder that good things are right here, right now. Maybe some good-time music will help or at least provide a distraction,” Darren Griffis says.
Back In Blue will be joining Eric Burdon and the Animals, Diesel, Cookin’ On 3 Burners with Tex Perkins and others at Blues On Broadbeach Music Festival later this month on the Gold Coast.
Darren has sifted through the history of Australian blues and selected five of the most underrated blues acts in Australia. “Ok, it's open to debate but this is my Top 5.”
5. Mike Elrington
A big boy with a huge voice. Plays the guitar like he is possessed. Great songwriting and a hard worker.4. Genevieve Chadwick
World-class vocalist, songwriter and her presence on stage is phenomenal; hasn't received the recognition she deserves.3. Shaun Kirk
"It's my job." That's what Shaun told me. In this day and age to put you faith in your ability and back it is a rarity. I saw Shaun play a venue where no one knew him and wasn't known as a live music venue. By the end of the night the crowd was dancing and singing his songs. A true blues man.2. 8 Ball Aitken
A powerhouse, a business man, and an exceptional guitarist. Yes he plays country, but he plays a mean blues. A very mean blues. He is the most underrated guitar player in Australia. Constantly touring both here and the States; another who backs his ability and succeeds.1. Lachy Doley
This guy! The most underrated musician in Australia. He has been described as the greatest keyboard player of our time. He is respected and has played with some of the world's best including Joe Bonamassa and Glenn Hughes. When your asked to play John Lord's parts on a tribute to him then you gotta know your chops. A great guy, a hard-working muso who puts in a killer show. The Blues On Broadbeach Music Festival (Gold Coast) takes place 19-22 May and is a free event to attend.
