An emerging talent from Central Coast, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Darcy Piltz's newest release, the single 'Wishing Your Life Away' spotlights the highs and lows of navigating life throughout your 20s.
A sound that matches the vibe of Dear Seattle, Luca Brasi and Sly Withers, Darcy performed all the instruments on the recording, collaborating with producer-mixer Toby Wells at Sonara Studios, an experience Piltz praises for bringing the song's idea to life.
'Wishing Your Life Away' was mastered by Jack Nigro (Rum Jungle, Vacations, The Terrys). "This track really hones in on being in your 20s. Everything feels crazy and chaotic, people are having kids and buying houses, others are really just getting started on their own story," Darcy says.
"It's about working those sh.t jobs to try and make money to do the things you want. At its core, this song is about trying to be present and appreciate what you've achieved so far, before immediately trying to chase the next 'thing'. Feels like a bit of a 'note to self' to remember what it's all about and trying not to get caught up in the rush."
With previous support slots with the likes of Playlunch, Fool Nelson, Dear Sunday and Pisco Sour & Playlunch, Darcy has been making a name for himself locally.
He even handled the DIY duties for the 'Wishing Your Life Away' music video, directing, editing and producing the entire clip. "'Wishing Your Life Away' came about super easily. I wrote and recorded everything you hear on this one (same as all my other songs). Like all my tracks it was born from mucking around with chord progressions on my guitar at home in my little studio.
"Most of the time, I'm writing about things I've felt or things I've seen others go through, and this one was the same. Once the lyrics were fleshed out, I jumped straight onto doing the demo as I felt something special was in this song.
"The drums probably took me the longest to work out as I wanted to get them perfect, and I think taking the time to figure them out really paid off.
"After sending Toby the world's sh.ttiest demo of the track, we jumped into Sonora Studios and pumped it out in one day and everything went smooth as butter. Luckily Toby saw the vision, and he crushed it with the production and mix. Doing it all myself can sometimes be stressful but Sonora Studios is starting to feel like home!"
