Unlike many music festivals, which are peppered with familiar artists and installations, WOMADelaide is a place of discovery.
If you go with an open mind and decide to just follow your eyes and ears, the magic will find you. Here's a handful of suggestions to get your adventure started.1: The Studio at Botanic High
The Studio at Botanic High becomes a performance space and respite from the bright and busy outside world. Join artist, author and director Dorcy Ragamba, and Senagalese multi-instrumentalist and singer Manjun as they share an excerpt from 'Hewa Rwanda - Letter To The Absent', reflecting on the Rwandan genocide and its impact. The ever-captivating Restless Dance Theatre perform their dance work 'Seeing Through Darkness', inviting the audience to linger and create a shadow-playground after the performance.
2: Write a letter to a Dear Stranger
In a beautiful homage to the time of handwritten missives, a roaming postie on a bike will invite you to write a letter and send it in a large pink post box onsite. In return, you'll receive a letter from another stranger, creating a chain of positivity and sharing.3: Planet Talks
Think deeply about the world around you at the Planet Talks forum and ponder the earth and environment alongside some of the world's leading researchers and thinkers. This year's programme digs into topics like greenwashing, how to tell compelling stories that instigate collective change, adapting to a changing climate, and considering whether we can phase out fossil fuels once and for all.
4: Taste The World
Share the culture of food at Taste The World, where performing artists cook a meal connected to their homes while sharing stories about their influences: culinary, culturally, musically and more, before you get to try the dishes they create.5: Kidzone
Kidzone is where families rejoice. WOMADelaide welcomes little people as important members of the festival family, and there's always plenty to keep smiles on faces and hands busy. From weaving workshops to performances, book nooks, a silent disco, and Evelyn Roth's Nylon Zoo, there's something fun for everyone.WOMADelaide is on at Botanic Park (Adelaide) from 7-10 March, 2025.
