As they navigate the injustice, inequality and ignorance of everyday life, Brisbane punk rockers VOIID are fostering their influences like L7, Smashing Pumpkins, and Hole to create their own brand of grunge and lending a voice to those in need.
With their resume featuring festival performances at Groovin The Moo and BIGSOUND, not to mention support gigs with Amyl And The Sniffers and DZ Deathrays, VOIID's most recent release was last year's EP, 'Socioanomaly', which they say "has been the most important release to us so far".Ahead of their performance at GOMA's 'The Motorcycle: Design, Art, Desire' Up Late series (20 March) – where they'll be joined by Tex Perkins alongside Indigenous rapper and musician JK-47, and DJs Eamon Sandwith, Paolo and Patience Hodgson – VOIID share a few things that make them feel cool.
1: Being gay
Because being gay is just the best way to live, and feeling comfortable with who you are is a really irreplaceable feeling.2: When you're walking through the city to the beat of the music you are listening to
The wind is blowing through your hair and your music matches up to your walking pace, and old people are staring at you because you look so cool that they hate it.3: Listening to 'C.O.T.C' by Ballista
Just give it a listen and you’ll understand.4: Wearing a sick outfit and having a cool, old lady compliment you
5: When we're all walking somewhere together and someone yells "VOIID!"
It feels very validating as musicians. Our fans are such a wholesome group of people and we feel like we have a very personal relationship with them. They're always so comfortable coming up and talking to us which we love.VOIID play GOMA's 'Up Late' series (Brisbane) 20 March.
